Tarot Writing Prompt:

Happy Friday!

If you didn’t know, every weekend I post writing prompts via the tarot cards. I follow a simple 2-card spread most of the time, but sometimes I get a little creative and generate a new layout for the occasion.

First Operation

Keeping with the idea of manifestation of a story, I chose the Magician to be the signifier for this round. I performed the first operation and found the Magician in the fourth pile, the pile of work/wealth. I put all the cards again, divided them into the four piles, and drew two cards from the fourth pile.

Cards Drawn

The First card, the initial response to the situation is the 3 of Swords. The obstacle of the initial situation of the spread is the Ace of Cups.

Card 1: 3 of Swords

img_6787.jpgThe 3 of Swords can be a difficult card. It seems quite obvious from its depiction that it is a wounded heart. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean heartbreak. It can also represent a bruised ego, or a moment in which the ego comes alive and says ‘No more,’ and carries you away from a difficult situation.

The Swords are a card of intellect and of communication. The suit deals logic and fairness as well. While the 3 of Swords could signal being broken hearted, it could also be a signal for a deliverance of hard truths.

Card 2: Ace of Cups

Aquarian Tarot Ace of CupsThe Ace of Cups deals with the matter of emotions. It is that from which we fill ourselves so that we can navigate through the day with empathy, compassion and respect. It is how we relate to other people, and as such, mostly deals with our relationships. By relationships, I mean, those with the people that you have a level of fondness for, that you have actively cultivated. These aren’t the relationships we have as say server and customer, or as boss and employee, or client and provider. No, these relationships are those we put emotion and heart into. These are with our friends, our loved ones, our families.

With the Aces being the beginning, then this is a card of something new, a new relationship, or a new emotion.

However, the Cups also do with intuition, the subconscious, and psychic ability, and thus the Ace can represent a new message from one of these three places.

Numbers

The number associated with the 3 of Swords is 3, and the number associated with the Ace of Cups is 1.

3: The Empress (Earth)

Threes:

3 - The EmpressThe Threes represent the first shape of stability. When we consider the 1 as the point of origin, the 2 as a connection or harmony between two points, when a third point comes along, there is the first shape. And thus, 3 is equivalent to creation, fertility, and any of the surrounding meanings.

The Empress is the first card of creation in the Major Arcana. She is the emblem of fertility and creation, and what’s more, she is the nurturing aspect that helps things to grow. She is associated with mothers, and thus, mothering qualities. She is feminine energy applied to creation.

1: The Magician (Air)

Ones:

1’s deal with beginnings. They are the starting point. They are the first dot that marks the start of something. Without the first dot there cannot be a second point between which to draw a line. Thus, without the 1, the builder of all things, nothing can be built.

The Magician is a card of manifestation, a card of taking in the tools put before him and bringing about the contents of his mind. This is a card of action, one that says that it’s time to bring forth your ideas to the table and put them into play.

4 - The EmporerFurther Numbers: 4 (3 + 1)

Fours:

Fours are a number of stability and structure. They are the number of order and authority, and correspond to the Emperor. The Emperor represents just that, though in a masculine, active sort of way. The emperor is full of stable, but fiery energy, an authoritative hand, and strong sway. Likewise, he can also represent father figures.

Writing Prompt

At work, your character is delivered some horrible news, something that is just a pill that is hard to swallow. This influences the way your character works and thinks of themselves as a valuable member of staff. The worst part of is that the news was delivered by the person they’re in love with and had decided to ask out that day. Write the scene.
